Why link previews matter
A shared link with a big, clear image gets clicked far more often than a bare text row. Open Graph tags decide what Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, WhatsApp and Discord display; Twitter Card tags do the same on X. When they are missing, each platform guesses — and usually guesses badly.
Keep og:image at 1200×630 and a few hundred kilobytes, make og:url and the canonical link point at the page itself, and set twitter:card to summary_large_image. After changing tags, re-scrape the URL in Facebook's Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector, because platforms cache old previews for days.
