Frequently asked questions
- 301 or 302 — which should I use?
- Use 301 for anything permanent, including www and HTTPS canonicalisation. Keep 302 for genuinely temporary moves such as a maintenance page.
- How many redirects are too many?
- One hop is fine, two is tolerable, three or more is a problem. Point old URLs straight at the final destination instead of chaining them.
- My headers look different in a browser.
- Some CDNs vary headers by visitor location or device. This check runs from a server, so edge rules keyed to country may return other values.
